THE FIRST INDIAN WOMAN SCIENTIST FELLOW OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF UNITED KINGDOM


If you are an Indian then, you must know about her. She is the proud of our country.  Gagandeep Kang is the first Indian woman scientist fellow of the Royal Society of United Kingdom.


Gagandeep Kang is a leading researcher in viral infections in children & the testing of Rotaviral vaccines. She is a medical scientist who has worked on diarrhoea diseases and public health in India since 1990.


Gagandeep Kang FNA, FASC, FRS is a clinician scientist, professor in the Department Of Gastrointestinal Sciences at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, India and now the executive director of the Translational Health Science & Technology Institute, Faridabad.

Kang was recently awarded with the Fellowship of the Royal Society (FRS) of United Kingdom. She has become the first Indian Woman Scientist to achieve this.

  • She was also awarded with the prestigious Infosys Prize in Life Sciences in 2016.  She worked for rotavirus epidemiology and vaccinology in India
In her interviews, she spoke about the challenges of being a woman Scientist in India. India don't have enough female role models in Science.

Gagandeep Kang made the history by becoming the first Indian Woman to be selected for this fellowship!

What is Fellowship of the Royal Society?



Fellowship of the Royal Society (FRS, ForMemRS and HonFRS) is an award granted to individuals that the Royal Society of London judges to have made a 'substantial contribution to the improvement of natural knowledge, including mathematics, engineering science, and medical science'.
